💥 Countless Ways to Repair the Broken Human
Modern civilization offers countless ways to repair the troubled adult: therapy, medication, religion, rehabilitation, self-help, spiritual practice, and programs promising resilience, purpose, or awakening. Many provide genuine help. Yet their continual expansion rarely leads to the more unsettling question: Why does civilization keep producing so many people who later require repair?
Beginning with Jonathan Pageau’s call to “become fully human,” this article follows the problem upstream—into childhood, conditioning, institutional formation, and the education in consciousness that almost never occurs. Children learn how to function in the external world while receiving little preparation for observing attention, identification, automatic reaction, internal contradiction, or the forces shaping their beliefs. We treat the individual as the object of correction while the machinery that formed the individual escapes scrutiny.
